The Registration Process of a PRE
PRE Studbook
ANCCE is the officially recognised Association to handle the Purebred Spanish Horse Stud Book (known by the abbreviation LG PRE ANCCE) and to manage the breed’s Breeding Program.
A Purebred Spanish Horse is considered as such if and when it is registered in the PRE Stud Book, managed by ANCCE, to thus participate in the Breeding Program. The PRE Stud Book is the body that issues Equine Identification Documents (EID) for all Purebred Spanish Horses in the world. For this task, ANCCE uses a sophisticated, Internet-based IT tool that maintains contact among all those involved in stud book business and management, whether located in Spain or abroad.
The main PRE Stud Book office is located in the city of Sevilla (Southern Spain). It counts on the collaboration of a number of veterinarian representatives who have been authorised by the PRE Stud Book in Spain and its Collaborating Associations globally such as AusPRE in Australia.
ANCCE has been recognised by the Ministry of Agriculture since 2007 as the maximum representative of the breed to handle the PRE Stud book. Over the years, the Stud Book office has increased its indexes for quality, efficiency and reliability; this has earned international recognition.
According to the legislation of Spain, in law RD 2129/2008, dated the 216th of December, which establishes the National Program for the Preservation and Improvement of Farm Breeds, a Stud Book is any book, file, register or IT system managed by an officially recognized breed association or an official service that registers animals of a given breed. Said book specifically mentions the animal’s ancestors and it constitutes an essential tool for the undertaking of Breeding Programs.
Registering a foal/horse into the PRE studbook
The arrival of a foal is an exciting time of the year and now it is time to prepare to register the foal into the PRE studbook.

A foal/horse is eligible to be registered into the PRE studbook, only if both the dam and sire of the foal/horse has been inscribed into the PRE studbook and have passed their basic breeding assessment with a status ATPO/APTA. For more information regarding the breeding assessment process click here.

A request for service for inscription is made to AusPRE and must be accompanied with the required documents correctly filled along with a copy of the stallion breeding service certificate which is provided by the stallion owner at a time after confirmation of a positive pregnancy verified usually by the mare owner's veterinarian with the relevant payment made at the time of the request.
- NB: The date at which the confirmation of pregnancy should be determined remains between the parties in the sale of semen. -

AusPRE will prepare the request to the ANCCE office in Spain and an inscription pack will be issued to the applicant of the service.
The inscription pack will include a blood card and identification document that the authorised veterinarian will be required to fill out on the day of inscription. The foal/horses blood is collected and placed on the blood card, the foal/horse is also microchipped and the verified barcode label is affixed to the specified area of the blood card. The veterinarian will identify the horse and mark all features on the supplied document and sign this ready for the applicant to return to AusPRE.

NB: It is mandatory that the inscription process occurs on the one day and all documents sent to AusPRE in the one envelope. Ensure that the blood is DRY before folding and placing in the plastic bag to avoid contamination of specimen which will not be accepted by ANCCE.

The completed inscription is sent off to ANCCE in Spain and will await DNA testing, validation and a PRE ANCCE Passport will be generated with the horses unique UELN Code attached to their registered name. This passport is recognised internationally and can be used to register your horse in the future in FEI for competitions.

The passport will be issued to the owner. It is VERY important that all the contact details are kept up to date, to avoid any losses in post.

Welcome to your newly registered PRE Horse. Enjoy them and share the passion of this beautiful breed, that so many people across the globe have and continue in the future.
