Who is ANCCE?

The Royal Purebred Spanish Horse Breeders’ Association (Real Asociación Nacional de Criadores de Caballos de Pura Raza Española) and commonly known as ANCCE, is the mother association for the Purebred Spanish Horse throughout the world. Likewise, ANCCE has been officially recognized by Spain’s Ministry of Agriculture to handle the PRE Stud Book and thus, guarantee the purity of this century-old breed. The Purebred Spanish Horse Stud Book (LG PRE ANCCE) is essential for the PRE Breeding Program and its Genetic Improvement Program. Ever since ANCCE was founded, in 1972, the role that it plays when defending the Purebred Spanish Horse has been essential. It has been a national organization from the very beginning and is located in the city of Sevilla. Today, its membership numbers more than 700 breeders, who are from all over the world, 276 associate members and in addition to these, members include 33 Associations from around the globe which includes Australia. The LG PRE ANCCE Stud Book issues Equine IDs for all PRE Horses wherever they are located in the world. Its headquarters are in Sevilla (Spain) where the organization counts on the assistance of authorized veterinarians, in addition to international collaborating associations in Europe, America and Oceania ( which includes Australia). In 2019, ANCCE created a Molecular Genetics Laboratory to become the first to have its own EU certified laboratory with such characteristics. This has translated into qualitative and quantitative benefits for Purebred Spanish Horse owners and breeders. Today, the laboratory has a biological ample bank (blood, DNA, hair...) from more than 200,000 Purebred Spanish Horses the world over. Genotyping and parentage analysis are performed, as well as identity and coat colors verification (to benefit matings based on a given coat color in the offspring), among others. With state-of-the-art equipment, the laboratory uses the latest in technology, both when extracting DNA (automated extraction), DNA amplification (a conventional thermal cycler and real-time thermal cycler, RT-PCR), in addition to the subsequent analysis of amplified fragments using an automated capillary sequencer. The PRE Studbook is listed in the World of Sport Horse Breeding rankings and most recently in 12th ranking. The more PRE horses that are in work, register and compete in FEI, will also make a contribution to their breed and also appear in the rankings.
